‘Modern Methods of Construction’ (MMC) is a wide term, embracing a range of offsite manufacturing and onsite techniques that provide alternatives to traditional house building.
As the demand in this sector continues to gain pace, there has never been a better time to look at modern methods of roofing installation. Our lightweight, solar ready roofing system comes with a host of benefits that will ensure the homes are ready for 21st century construction.
The patented roofing system is made up of 3 key components which are a Galvanised batten, link channels and finally spring-loaded clips.
First the patented Galvanised Battens are fixed to the rafters in the conventional way replacing traditional timber battens. This is the only time nails or screws need to be used in the installation process.
Then specially designed Link Channels are snap fitted to the battens to form an interlocking grid system. This will reduce the amount of slates/tiles required to cover the roof. For example a roof using a 400×250 slate with a 100mm headlap would require around 26 m2, whereas the Nulok system would only need 13.3 m2. This will heavily reduce material waste.
Finally our exclusive Ceramic Tiles, Natural Slate and Solar Panels are slotted into place and held by the special stainless steel clips. These clips ensure any future maintenance or slate replacement is done in record time. It takes around 15 seconds to replace any damaged tiles or slates which is a major benefit when dealing with housing associations who would be responsible for the maintenance.
Solar is going to play a big part in future developments as we aim to meet NetZero2050 targets and we see that our system is the ideal way to install highly efficient solar at ease into the roof without adding unnecessary weight. The system will also ensure that more solar can be added to the roof in the future by simply removing around 5.8m2 of slates for every additional 1Kw of Solar.
The Nulok System was installed on 20 homes in 2020 by TopHat in their factory, which also included 1.5Kw of fully integrated Solar, which was then easily transported site. Since then we have already secured more orders from them and will plan to continue to do so for many years to come.
